5 Items You’ll Be Happy to Have with You on Your Wedding Day
Packing for your wedding day can be quite the task, but the items you’ll really need are the items most easily forgotten.
Coming from an event planner that just got married, here are the 5 items I’m thankful I had by my side on my wedding day!
1. Reception Shoes
Standing only 4’11”, I chose ceremony shoes that had a 4-inch heel on them. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I wore these gorgeous shoes for the ceremony and photos, but I was so thankful I had reception shoes to change into. My feet were covered in blisters, so changing into (some seriously cute) platform flats absolutely saved me. If you’re going to wear heels for the ceremony, consider bringing an extra pair of comfortable shoes along with you!
2. A Sweater
I’m that person that refuses to bring a coat and then ends up crying because I’m too cold. With a wedding date of April 14th, I thought I was safe to wear my strapless gown without any sort of covering for my shoulders – HA! I was very, very wrong. Average April temperatures in Wisconsin are in the 50’s, and we ended up getting married in the largest blizzard Green Bay has seen in over 130 years; so, I was incredibly thankful when my husband’s cousin showed up to the ceremony with a sweater for me.
Weather is the one uncontrollable on your wedding day – bring a sweater or some sort of wrap for your shoulders, just in case. You’ll be so glad you did.
3. Heel Protectors
Okay, so I didn’t actually end up using them because the ground was frozen, BUT investing in a pair of Solemates High Heel Protectors is a fantastic idea. These genius little things slip onto the end of your heels to prevent you from sinking into the grass – seriously, who invented this… major high-fives to you!
4. A Hair & Makeup Touch-up Kit
Be sure to pack a mini bottle of hairspray, extra bobby pins, a compact mirror, and lipstick (lip stain, lip gloss, whatever) to keep with you during the day – again, this saved me! Between my veil pulling on my updo and the wind tearing through my hair, I was so thankful to have this little kit!
5. Kleenex for the Ceremony
I was crying so hard walking down the aisle that I couldn’t even open my eyes. Jarrod kept a white handkerchief in his suit pocket for me (bless his heart) and was able to save my makeup and nose from running (yes, I was THAT bride that wiped her nose up at the altar – gotta do what you gotta do!).
6. BONUS ITEM! An Emergency Kit
Now if you’re lucky, and I mean real lucky, your Day-of Coordinator will have a killer emergency kit for you to use on your wedding day (I happen to know one 😉 !!). This little package of items should include just about everything for any scenario – we’re talking mirror, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shave gel, q-tips, chapstick, sunscreen, bug spray, umbrellas, granola bars, bottled water, advil, tums, sewing kit, nail kit, static guard, and so. much. more.
You never know what kind of random item you or someone in your bridal party will need during your wedding festivities. One of my bridesmaids had really dry eyes the morning of the wedding (…random!), and I was so excited to go into my emergency kit and retrieve some eye drops for her!
Be prepared. Stay comfortable. Enjoy every minute of your big day!
